Behind the Scenes: Haley's Crochet Creations

We have to admit that we are suckers for anything crochet!  Haley, of Haley's Crochet Creations, makes all of our crochet dreams come true with the most adorable children accessories from bows to headbands to clips.  For the adults, her coffee cozy, as seen in our March monthly gift box, is perfect for coffee on the go.  We loved getting a chance to learn more about Haley, her business and how she is helping to make a difference.

Tell us a little about your business and how you got started.
Haley’s Crochet Creations was officially established a little over a year ago! My husband, Chris, purchased a crochet starter kit for me when I was pregnant with my son. The original intention was just to have a fun hobby and make things for my little guy. We were both surprised at how fast I picked it up and I was even more surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it! For me, crochet is a creative outlet. Every mom needs a little “sanity break” some times and crochet brings me so much joy! After a few weeks of crocheting I started receiving tons of custom requests from friends, family, and neighbors. In no time at all, Haley’s Crochet Creations was a full blown business! I am SO thankful for each and every customer that I have the privilege of working with. I am now able to stay home with my son, Clark, full time. There is no greater blessing in my day today than being a mom!

What is your favorite piece in your shop right now?
My current favorite piece in the shop is a skinny top knot headband called the “Hope Tie.” This headband was named after the child that we recently lost early in pregnancy. The medical diagnosis has had lasting implications and restrictions for trying again. My husband and I are now walking through the steps of adopting. Proceeds from every “Hope Tie” go to support the organization we are working with. It is an incredible ministry that allows families to adopt by eliminating the financial burden. The hope for a child to be tied to a forever family is where the name of this headband comes from!

What’s your best tip for balancing work and personal life?
The best advice I can give for balancing work and personal life is to set aside time for each. It is so important to guard family time and make sure they don’t feel like my shop is getting the best of me! I have set hours each day for work and I try extremely hard to get all work related things done in those hours.

Favorite part of running your own business?  What about the hardest part?
My favorite part of running my own business is setting my own hours. This allows me to be a part of the day to day adventures with my son and take care of business things while he is sleeping! I have been so blessed to experience each individual milestone with him and be there with him day to day. He is almost 2 and they change so fast at his age!

The hardest part can be the “evening hours.” Since I try to reserve all work for when he is sleeping, I am not a stranger to late nights. I always wish there were more hours in the day to design and create!

Your most memorable moment.
My most memorable moment as a shop owner may seem small to some. For me it was seeing my Logo printed on business cards and flyers. My Hubby went a step further and ordered a custom coffee mug with my logo on it. It made the whole adventure really come to life for me!

One place everyone must visit in their lifetime?
Everyone MUST make a point to visit the tulip fields in LaConner, WA. There are fields and fields that consist of miles and miles of tulips in every color you can possibly imagine! It is truly an incredible site to behold.

Stranded on a desert island question… what is the one thing you would want with you?
If I were stranded on a desert Island I would want my hooks and yarn with me! I could at least make some necessary items for survival and it would give me a way to pass the time!
