Behind the Scenes: Adam Rabbit

We love the raw crystal jewelry that Adam Rabbit creates.  Especially that Ashley, owner of Adam Rabbit, hand crafts each unique piece herself!  Her Raw Quartz Crystal Statement Necklace was featured in our April monthly gift box and it was quite a stand out.

Tell us a little about your business and how you got started.
For as long as I can remember I have tried to make and sell things. When I was 8 I would mix together smelly concoctions and try to pass them off as perfume, selling them door-to-door. Eventually I began sewing and designing dresses but realized I actually enjoyed making coordinating jewelry more than the actual dress. A few years ago I opened an Etsy shop and was so worried about what people would think I didn't tell anyone for the first 6 months. Once I developed a cohesive style Adam Rabbit started taking off!

What’s your best tip for balancing work and personal life?
This is something that I struggle with but after a few years I realized that it's important to listen to your body. Taking a day off and resting or treating yourself is beneficial to your health and mental state! It's much more important to have a positive outlook on life than accomplishing 1,000 tasks a day. No one wins an award for being the most tired.

Best part of running your own business? What about the hardest part?
I love the feeling that AR is something that I created and I have full decision making over what happens. I could quit tomorrow or on the other hand, sign a lease for a retail space. The hardest part is learning to listen to your intuition. It can also be difficult to not take things personally or compare your business to other businesses, but absolutely necessary if you want to be able to sleep at night!

How would you describe your style?
Lately I've been describing it as desert-magic-crystal-babe, but that tends to change frequently.

Stranded on a desert island question… what is one thing you would want with
you?

I was actually stranded at a truck stop last summer and spent a few days watching Naked and Afraid, so I would definitely have to go with what I learned from that show and say a knife to build a shelter and hunt with, but my boyfriend and partner Joe comes in a close second. We always have a great time together and I would be interested to know if we could withstand the island together.

Favorite Instagram feed?
I love @MaysGrafx @The_numinous and @GlitterandLazers lately!

Where do you see yourself in five years?
I hope I'm happy, healthy, and still making jewelry preferably out of beach house or on a yacht, but we will see.
